Grassroots organizations in Scotland are invited to apply for a £375,000 funding allocation dedicated to gambling research and support services. The application window remains open until August 14.
The initiative targets projects addressing gambling harms, mental health, and suicide prevention. The funds originate from Scotland’s £7.9m share of the UK gambling levy and operate within the Population Health Framework.
Program Management and Objectives
The Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland, known as the ALLIANCE, manages the fund. This marks the program's second year, following the support of 16 exploratory projects during the 2025–26 period. The government aims to enhance early intervention capabilities for vulnerable individuals.
Minister for Mental Health Maree Todd stated that gambling harms are frequently linked to substance use, debt, and housing insecurity. Sara Redmond, Chief Officer at the ALLIANCE, noted that gambling often leads to a gradual decline in wellbeing, necessitating deeper community support.
Previous research funded through the program identified that severe gambling issues are often masked by other socio-economic factors.
