European Safer Gambling Week 2024 Runs November 18 to 24

The European Gaming and Betting Association will host the third European Safer Gambling Week across Europe from November 18 to 24, 2024. The annual campaign unites industry operators, regulators, and prevention organizations to promote responsible gambling practices and consumer protection.

Coordinated from Brussels, the five-day program features webinars, seminars, and digital outreach campaigns. iGEN and other European iGaming associations collaborate with EGBA to organize the schedule. The initiative focuses on expanding safety measures and addressing the unregulated gambling market, where consumer safeguards remain limited.

Responsible gambling frameworks rely on player-controlled safety mechanisms. Operators implement self-exclusion periods, session timers, reality check notifications, deposit caps, permanent account closure options, and bank-level transaction blocks. Industry data from the 2023 campaign shows measurable adoption growth.

Deposit limit usage rose by 18 percent, while maximum stake limit applications increased by over 300 percent during the same period. Digital awareness campaigns recorded more than 50 million impressions across major social networks.

2023 Sustainability Report Findings

The EGBA Sustainability Report for 2023 indicates that 21 million customers, representing 65 percent of the user base, utilized safety tools, marking a 14 percent year-over-year increase. Deposit restrictions remained the most frequently selected feature. Operators distributed 67.6 million player communications during the year, a 49 percent rise from the previous cycle. EGBA Secretary General Maarten Haijer noted that the European online gambling sector has strengthened regulatory frameworks and industry standards over the last ten years.
